Round Up from ‘Round the Web!
There is some crazy stuff going on right now! I wanted to share the latest news and some articles I found interesting from around the internets.
Fluoride may lower IQ scores
There is a new Harvard study out that says that fluoride lowers IQ scores. This is really scary. Dr. Joseph Mercola has an incredible write-up on it at Huffington Post. According to Dr. Mercola:
A recently-published Harvard University meta-analysis funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has concluded that children who live in areas with highly fluoridated water have “significantly lower” IQ scores than those who live in low fluoride areas.
I find this really concerning. Studies have repeadedly linked fluoride to reduced IQ and brain damage, and you know what?
Fluoride is THE ONLY drug that is forced as mass medication of the population with no control of dosing.
There is absolutely no reason for fluoride to be in anyone’s water. This fluoride is actually a waste products from the fertilizer industry and is a hazardous waste. It’s frightening and can be difficult to remove from your household tap. Check out Radiant Life Catalog for their excellent selection of reverse osmosis filters, which does take fluoride (and many, many other carcinogenics and damaging contaminants) out of your water.
Clearly Filtered Clean Water Filter Pitcher removes 90% of fluoride from your water, which I think is pretty smokin’.
Ritalin May Not be as Effective as Once Thought
Ritalin, also known as Concerta, Medikinet and Equasym and generically as methylphenidate, is one of the most common drugs prescribed to children and may not be as effective as once thoughts. The Cochrane Review, a panel of independent researchers, has taken a look at this drug and have voiced concern about the poor quality studies done on it.
“Our expectations of this treatment are probably greater than they should be,” said Morris Zwi, a London-based consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist, who worked on the review.
“Whilst our review shows some evidence of benefit, we should bear in mind that this finding was based on very low-quality evidence. What we still need are large, well-conducted trials to clarify the risks versus the benefits.”

ADHD Medications Hinder Sleep in Children
Stimulant medications used for ADHD patients may hinder much-needed sleep in children.
In a statement, psychologist Katie Kidwell stated that “We would recommend that pediatricians frequently monitor children with ADHD who are prescribed stimulants for potential adverse effects on sleep.”
The team from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln analyzed 10,000 articles and reviewd over 160 full tests before they picked nine studies for the meta-analysis. Rather than relying on parental reports, they chose the study that were obtained through clincally and mechanically via wearable sleep monitors. The team segregated both methylphenidate (Ritalin) and amphetamine (Adderall) during analysis but found no significant difference.
